Associate of Applied Science

 

Curriculum Accreditation

 

The Associate of Applied Science in Health Science equips students with essential STEM-based skills and knowledge for success in the dynamic healthcare field.  This program provides introductory healthcare industry knowledge and on-the-job skills with coursework in biology, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology.  Students develop a solid foundation in the sciences underlying healthcare practices, emphasizing critical thinking and communication.

Graduates are prepared for various entry-level roles in healthcare settings and can contribute to many aspects of the healthcare system.  Additionally, this degree lays the groundwork for further studies in diverse healthcare disciplines, making it an excellent starting point for those interested in advancing their careers in the health sciences.

Program Outcomes for Health Science (AAS)

  1. Demonstrate understanding of core biological, anatomical, and physiological principles relevant to health sciences.
  2. Apply critical thinking to understand scientific data and solve basic problems in health-related coursework.
  3. Effectively use scientific and health-related terminology in written and verbal communication.
  4. Recognize basic ethical and legal concepts related to health science fields and their implications for future healthcare roles.
  5. Identify the structure and function of different health systems and the role of science in healthcare practices.
  6. Develop a strong foundation in general sciences that prepares for continued studies in health-related disciplines.
  7. Apply data from biology, anatomy, and physiology to inform understanding of health and disease processes.
